Switzerland and Go Karts

October 29th 2012
I started out the day by going to St. Gallen Switzerland with Agnes and Clara to look for new shoes for Clara. Everything was still covered in snow, so as we drove we got to see an entirely white landscape. We crossed the Rhein into Switzerland, and drove about a half hour, past other smaller cities, to get to the city of St. Gallen. It is a large city, at least the size of Bregenz and Dornbirn combined, so there were lots of people out and about even on a Monday. First we searched, and eventually found a parking place in the center of town. Then we began to walk through the main shopping strip, and visited multiple shoe stores. She needed a pair of beige shoes to go with an outfit I guess, and beige is not a typical color for shoes. I followed along, admired the cobblestone streets (like most old cities), and browsed around. For lunch we ended up going to a Migros Cafeteria by the main train station. Migros is another supermarket, just like SPAR, that is typically Swiss. We hit the lunch rush perfectly, so there were tons of people and not much room to sit. But we had our fill then continued on back into the city. We went around St. Lawrence’s Church, then went to a large domed church across from the library (we didn’t have time to visit the library though. Once inside, I was astounded by the ornate decorations and sheer size of the place. The frescos were pristine and the whole thing was very impressive. We left St. Gallen then drove to another smaller shopping center close to the border of Austria. Again, we had no luck finding the beige shoes. Once home, I hung out until about 6 o’clock, when Ernst took Beni, Jakob and I to meet up with the other boys on his side of the family for Go-Kart racing! It was epic, the track was at least twice as long as the one in Bozeman, and the races were really competitive and fun. I ended up doing pretty badly, I think 5th out of 8, but I don’t even care, it was a really good time. Afterwards we went to a little restaurant right next to Ernst and Heri’s firms. We almost all had Wiener Schnitzel and fries, then I was tired out and needed sleep before my trip to Linz the next day.
